Convex Analysis, Optimization and Applications

From January 5, 2010 to January 8, 2010

Held on the occasion of the 65th birthday of Claude Lemaréchal, CAOA workshop gathered internationally renowned researchers on the theory and practice of optimization, January 5th-8th, 2010.

Convex Analysis, Optimization and Applications In the spirit of the work of Claude Lemaréchal, theory, numerical aspects and real-world applications have been considered. The areas addressed by CAOA included convex programming, nonlinear programming, combinatorial optimization, and convex, nonsmooth and variational analysis.

Amongst invited participants : Gérard Cornuejols (Carnegie Mellon University, USA), Arkadi Nemirovski (GeorgiaTech, USA) and Yurii Nesterov (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgique).

Research Director at l'INRIA, Claude Lemaréchal has led several research teams in the fields of System Theory, Mathematical Programming and Numerical Optimization.
His research work in optimization, particularly in domains related with operations research and its links with nonlinear optimization have been internationally recognized and received the Dantzig Prize in1994.

He has actively participated in the development of numerical methods in various branches of industry. Most significant results were obtained in geophysics (meteorology) and production management (electrical energy).

Claude Lemaréchal is co-author, with J.B Hiriart Urruty, of the book "Convex Analysis and Minimization Algorithms" (Springer Verlag).
