Expressive 2D Animation Using Dynamic Curve Primitives

French version

2d animation is still intensively used for producing expressive movies. Current techniques are mostly based on keyframing, which limits in practice the fast generation of natural, realistic motion.
Our goal is to explore the use of a dynamic curve model to capture the motion of deformable slender structures such as hair, trees, or a character skeleton. Most of the work will be devoted to the reconstruction of the physically-based curve model from sketched curves, as well as the design of a user-friendly interface in order to add new, interacting 2D objects defined by curves.

Prerequisites : good aptitude for maths (geometry, optimization), algorithmics (data structures, object-oriented programing, ...), and implementation (C++, OpenGL).

Advisors : Florence Bertails (BiPop team) and Joëlle Thollot (ARTIS team).
