MobiWan: NS-2 extensions to study mobility in Wide-Area IPv6 Networks
This code has been developed by MOTOROLA Labs Paris in collaboration
with INRIA PLANETE Team.
It belongs to MOTOROLA and is publicly contributed to the
NS-2
simulation tool.

What's
new ?
-
May 2002: new release (still based on ns-2.1b6)
-
Bugs have been corrected and installation process made easier.
Presentation
-
MobiWan is a simulation tool based on NS (version ns-2.1b6) meant
to simulate Mobile IPv6 under large Wide-Area Networks (both
local-area mobility and global-area mobility). As such,
MobiWan comprises extensions to simulate Mobile IPv6, and extensions to
manipulate and configure large network topologies (TOPOMAN / TOPOGEN).
Both extensions can work independently one from the other.
-
MobiWan distribution comprises:
-
Documentation (slides, technical report, and README files for installation
guidelines)
-
Mobile IPv6, available, in two modes:
-
Local mobility (i.e. within an administrative domain, i.e. within
a bounded area)
-
Global mobility (crossing administrative domains, i.e. moving from
one side of the topology to another).
This is meant to support Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (not included in
the distribution).
-
simple IPv6 extensions needed by Mobile IPv6
-
embedded extensions to allow simultaneous use of wireless features, mobility,
and multicast.
-
TOPOMAN: library to create, configure, and manipulate large
topologies in a very easy manner
-
TOPOGEN: translator from GT-ITM to NS-2 which output TOPOMAN procedure
calls.
-
Demonstration of both Mobile IPv6 and TOPOMAN
-
Mobiwan exclusively runs under ns-2.1b6
-
don't expect it to work with a later version of NS - it won't
-
a new version based on ns-2.1b9 is currently under investigation
-
For installation guidelines, see the README file in the distribution. It
is assumed you have been successful in installing Ns2.1b6 prior to installing
MobiWan. Get ns-2.1b6 from the NS-2
web site. It is also assumed you are already familiar with NS-2, then
installation should not be a problem. However, I will try to be helpful
as much as possible if you have trouble understanding the code (note the
code is documented within the source files), depending on my availability.
-
Don't expect NS validation to succeed after installing MobiWan. MobiWan
is not meant to pass the validation.
-
This his code comes with no guaranties and has bugs. Bugs reports are highly
welcome, together with patches. Feedback about the code itself is particularly
very much appreciated.
